Filipino for Kids Summer Program 2008 Evaluation

Maraming salamat for allowing your kids to participate in our Filipino for Kids Summer Program. Please take some time to leave comments evaluating the program. What activities did your kids enjoy the most? Why? And what activities did your kids enjoy the least? Why? What other lessons/topics/activities would you like to include in our program? What about the schedule? Is is too short? too early? What about the location or facility? Is registration just right or too much? Would you recommend this program to other families? Please let us know your ideas so we can improve the program next time. You can choose to be anonymous when you leave or post your comment. Again, maraming salamat!

Hello Tita Ime,
Cale and Harper absolutely loved the program. They especially liked the hands on demonstrations, halo halo (any food things are great), dancing and singing. I think the registration fee is fine. Of course, everyone wants to pay less versus more, but I think what you provide is worth more than the fee. The start time is good. If anything, either having more days/weeks or longer hours would be nice as there is only so much that can be taught/learned in 11 hours. The location is great. The FilCom center is the perfect venue for this and we are grateful for the opportunity to have this there. We would definitely recommend your program to anyone/everyone. In fact, over the past few weeks, we have been raving about it. Please please please keep us informed to any other happenings and this class for next year. Thank you again and to all your staff and volunteers.

Tita Ime and staff,

Thank you so much for allowing me to sign up Destiny and Journey for your Filipino for Kids program. They loved every minute of it and enjoyed themselves. When I originally contacted you, you told me that the class had been filled, and my girls were so sad. Then when I got the news that there would be an opening for them, they were ecstatic.

They loved learning the songs, the Halo Halo making, and learning escrima. I think you and the staff have done a wonderful job with the entire program, and would love to have my children take part in it again. The fee for the class is nothing compared to the learning experiences and wonderful materials the children receive. Please know that you and all of the volunteers and staff have made a difference in the lives of my girls and have introduced them to all things Filipino that they never knew about. Thank you all for your hard work and dedication. Please let me know about the program for next summer, so I can be sure to reserve my girls spot in the program.

Salamat Po (I am even learning :) ),
Skye Mabalot (Destiny and Journey too)

Magandang hapon sa inyong lahat,

Tita Ime & staff: You folks are the best! My children; Kaliko, Kauanoe & Kawaiola LOVE LOVE LOVE the classes! We plan on signing them up for Eskrima once the school year starts and we get settled in. If you know of or are facilitating any additional Filipino classes, workshops or community events please let me know. I will do the same. The blog is wonderful!

Hi Ime,
The Filipino for Kids Summer Program is an excellent starter for local kids to get exposed to the Filipino language and culture. After the sessions, my children play the cd, read the book and become interested about the Philippines.
We hope there will be continuity or sequel to this program.
We appreciate all your efforts and all the help of the Kuyas and Ates.
Congratulations on a program well done!
Mahalo, aloha and God bless!

Aloha! My son Jahred had so much fun and learned much more about the Filipino culture than I could ever teach him. Infact, he knows a lot more than I do. I only wish that there was program like Filipino for Kids when I was a child. It's a great opportunity for those of filipino descent to learn the culture and where they came from. My son is 50% Filipino and I feel that him being familiar with the both cultures will indeed make him better person. It's always better to expose children to different cultures and language when they are younger but elementary aged kids don't have Filipino courses as an elective in school and Filipino for kids make up for that. The location was convenient and the facilities were exceptional. The cost was way less than what I think the program is worth and wouldn't mind paying more if I had too. Arts and crafts, food demonstrations, learning sipa and escrima complemented the program superbly. Kudos to Filipino for Kids!

As a parent, UHM student, and 'Ate participating in the Fil4Kids program, I may have too much of a biased opinion, but either way, here are my thoughts:
In comparison to last summer, the program was much more organized and this is perhaps due to the overwhelming amount of mga Kuya/Ate/Kaibigan/Pamilya that volunteered to be there so early on Saturday mornings. It also helped to have a structure of activities such as brief song/lesson overview followed by computer session, snack/recess, then physical activity. May I suggest to switch the computer lesson and physical activity? When the kids learned dances and played sipa out in the courtyard, many complained about the heat. My most favorite activity was certainly the Halo-Halo lesson and sabi ni Kaycee, "It was masarap and fun!" Also, it was no surprise that the Escrima demo was a big hit. It was an especially great treat for Grandmaster Ty to sell the sticks which my anak is constantly trying out. Personally the schedule/time frame is sparse. Ideally it would be WONDERFUL if more time could be arranged for the program. The location/facility is perfect; though maybe the ballroom or part of it, would help minimize distractions of the younger kids and provide an environment for the older ones to explore topics further. Furthermore, the reg. fee is not too much and I certainly would pay more especially if a text/workbook could be thrown in to supplement what the kids learn. Finally, I have told everyone I know (and don't know) about Fil4Kids and will continue to do so until a permanent Filipino Language School (or the like) is created=) BTW, the older kids just had a kick watching the Tekniklingz (sp?) perform. One kid shared with me, "They're like Filipino-Hawai'i Best Dance Crew!"

Hi Imelda,

Thank you for a wonderful experience. Our children have been immersed and I am grateful they were in it. The summer program has gone beyond my expectations. Our children love the music, dance and food that were introduced to them and thus have created more respect for the Filipino culture and its people. The summer program was exceptional and would encourage more funding to support the enculturation. May I suggest asking the Filipino Women’s League for funding as well as the Filipino Chamber of Commerce?

Maraming Salamat!
